Belle
kidded with triplets at 3:00 AM on April 20, 2007. We heard some noise on the baby monitor, and by the time we ran out
to the barn, the kids were already on the ground. All we had to do was clear their noses and dip their cords.
All three weighed in the 3 1/2 to 4 pound range. This was a second freshening for Belle, and again she was an excellent
Mom. Her udder was considerably larger than the previous year, and she had plenty of milk for her triplets.
Lucy
really surprised us with triplets at 3:30 PM the next day. She was considerably smaller than Belle, and we never expected
her to have triplets. The first kid weighed only 1 1/2 pounds (needless to say, that was Peanut), and we thought that
was going to be it. Boy were we surprised when 20 minutes later she gave birth to a second kid weighing 2 1/2 pounds,
and then 20 minutes after that gave birth to a third kid weighing 2 1/2 pounds! Despite their small size, they were
all healthy and nursed well. Lucy was also an excellent Mom, being very attentive and protective of her kids.
